It’s recommended to adopt an adult dog of this breed, as it is already socialized and trained. Foster owners provide necessary rehabilitation for every purebred dog available for adoption. Puppies of this breed may be difficult to deal with for a novice owner. Many owners who cannot devote enough time for housebreaking a pup, surrender it to a local organization. Even if the puppy has a pedigree and all necessary documents, it will never make a reliable pet, if it lacks socialization and at least basic obedience training.

DGRR is a volunteer-staffed non-profit organization aimed at quality placement of unwanted dogs from shelters and owners into new permanent homes. Every dog is screened for socially accepted behavior; dogs with bite records are not taken. The organization educates the public about responsible animal ownership. This organization helps owners and breed fanciers with information on the behavior, training and specific care for these dogs. This breed is very adaptive and easy to bond with all members of the new family. They make wonderful pets, but sometimes may have health problems due to poor nutrition.
