The golden jersey new rescue retriever kennel is operated by volunteers and breeders.
The GRCA is one of the oldest and largest breed clubs in the US with over 5,000 members. Kennel registry by the GRCA was started in 1989; it’s not official, but when a perspective buyer asks for breeder references in the area, it’s possible to find all registered kennels that work with this breed. The GRCA promotes breed education and encourages responsible breeding and ownership. Basic tests for a dog's hunting ability were developed by this club. There are also several hunting clubs in the USA working with this breed.

All dogs for adoption are vaccinated, checked for parasites, and spayed or neutered. Dogs that have had a bite report or that are very aggressive are not taken. Before adoption, the animals are placed in foster homes for a short period of time. During that time, the dog’s behavior is assessed, its temperament and habits are studied to find the most suitable permanent home. Foster owners are not responsible for training the dog, but should provide all necessary care and attention to make the animals adapt easily.
